On a toasty Sunday afternoon in late September, Mia and I co-hosted a small romantic styled shoot, “Picnic in the Park,” at Ballantyne Corporate Park.
Our concept was born when Mia and I spent an afternoon exploring antique shops in the Lake Norman area. Mia happened upon the vintage picnic basket shown above, and together we created this styled shoot idea right there in the antique shop!
What is a styled shoot anyway?
A styled shoot is a collective effort by a team of creatives to create a conceptual scene for a photoshoot -in this case, a romantic afternoon picnic. Styled shoots are a fantastic way to connect with industry professionals and create beautiful, valuable marketing material for every brand involved!
When Mia suggested that we hold this shoot at 3 pm, I was skeptical. Typically I avoid doing outdoor photography from 10-4 during the summer as the sun is high and can cause unflattering shadows on my portrait subjects. However, having never been to Ballantyne Corporate Park before, I decided to trust Mia on this one. I was delighted to find that the unusually high tree line diffuses the harsh sunlight beautifully at this spot, making the window of difficult light very small!
A Sunday picnic wouldn’t be complete without a bottle of Pinot Grigio! The menu for this afternoon hangout included white wine and brie with crackers.
The models, a married pair of dentists, did a great job following directions and looking as cute as can be!
