On a golden June evening, I explored Camp North End with beautiful local model, Paris Loran. Paris, 6 months pregnant at the time, was my subject for a creative 90s grunge maternity photo shoot.

A styled shoot is a collaborative effort by creatives to make a conceptual photoshoot -in this case, a 90s grunge maternity shoot. I consider this to be a mini-styled shoot as only Paris and I were involved, and we styled her using items we had on hand.

My vision for this shoot was born from a desire to do maternity differently. I’ve noticed that maternity photos tend to have a very distinct look -they’re all dramatic gowns and golden rim lighting with an ethereal overtone. I wanted to create a maternity collection unlike anything I’ve seen from other photographers.

Camp North End is an industrial park with dotted with small businesses. It features a wide variety of murals created by local Charlotte artists. The combination of colorful murals and weathered buildings for backdrops makes this part of town a photographer’s playground!

Paris is due in September to give birth to her first child! I think she looks absolutely radiant and makes pregnancy look glamorous.

You may have noticed that grunge is a common theme in my creative work -and you are on the nose! The alternative aesthetic influences how I dress myself and the work I prefer to make when I have complete creative control.

Camp North End is always good location choice to consider when booking a branding or portrait session with me!
