My first photoshoot of 2021 was a Southend branding shoot with Raleigh model Alyssa Davis. We connected over Instagram in early 2020 and I had been hoping to work with her ever since! I was thrilled to have the opportunity to create with her in January.
Alyssa is an accomplished model and modeling coach. She uses her social platforms to equip fellow models with practical knowledge and increase bookings and encourage self-acceptance. Alyssa regularly posts about difficult topics that touch the modeling industry like body image, mutually-beneficial collaborations, discrimination, and assault.

I’ll admit that I was slightly intimidated to finally meet Alyssa. However, as soon as we met, I was impressed (and relaxed!) by her down-to-earth yet professional personality.

I love to use the Byron’s Southend area for shoots. The modern brick walls, industrial tables, and minimal landscaping make for great backgrounds.
Alyssa is great to work with! She has a good posing flow; she takes direction well and enhanced my suggestions with ease. She knows her angles and gave a lot of variety in facial expression.

Southend is one of my favorite places for branding shoots! Around every corner is an interesting (and often colorful) backdrop to play with.

When the light is right, the colorful walls of Jeni’s Splendid Icecreams makes for a great photo op!
The shot below is one of my favorites from our session! I love the raw drama of it.

After a quick outfit change, we set out to use the last little bit of golden hour light along the railway.
