In late September, I was invited to attend an ethereal and whimsical styled shoot, Good Witches, hosted and organized by Charlotte model Kaela Coopwood.

Kaela’s inspiration for the shoot concept was the three fairy godmothers from Disney’s classic animated film, Sleeping Beauty. Spooky season shoots are a longstanding tradition in the photography industry, and Kaela organized this one tailored to her taste.

The Good Witches styled shoot included a number of multi-talented vendors! Kaela (in pink) conceptualized and organized the shoot, created all the sets, and modeled. Beth (in blue) did all the makeup and modeled as well. Shy Siren, one of my favorite local jewelry designers, crafted all of the jewelry by hand. Andrea, the set assistant, provided a number of the props. Lastly, I helped put together the sets before switching into photography mode!

This campsite setup (below) was Kaela’s original idea that she built the rest of the concept around. She shared this particular idea with me very early this year! Each and every darling detail was dreamed up by her.

I got a chance to experiment with some shadow play and created the two images below! Styled shoots are the perfect setting to get creative and try new (or difficult) techniques. I love the dramatic effect the bold lighting gave these two images.
As the last sunbeams faded away and the sun began to dip below the horizon, the good witches twirled and skipped in the last of the golden light. The halo effect (provided by the backlighting) gives these images a really ethereal feel!

I’m grateful to have been included in this uniquely beautiful styled shoot! I really appreciate all the hard work and contributions from each of the vendors (below).
